Twitter is facing a dispute with Google as it refuses to pay its bills for Google Cloud services, potentially impacting the social media platform’s trust and safety teams, according to a report by Platformer. Prior to Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter, the company had entered into a multi-year contract with Google that encompassed combating spam and safeguarding user accounts.
Details about how this conflict might impede Twitter’s trust and safety teams were not disclosed in the Platformer report. However, The Information stated that Twitter has been seeking to renegotiate its contract with Google since at least March.
While Twitter hosts certain services on its own servers, it relies on cloud platforms such as Amazon and Google for others, as noted by Platformer. Earlier this year, Amazon reportedly warned Twitter that it would withhold advertising payments due to outstanding bills for cloud computing services provided by Amazon Web Services.
Since Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, the company has made significant cost-cutting measures, including laying off numerous employees. In November, it was revealed that Musk had directed Twitter to reduce infrastructure costs, including expenses related to cloud services, by $1 billion.
As of now, Twitter has not responded to email inquiries regarding this matter, and Google has not provided an immediate comment.
