Team India Unveils Schedule for ICC World Test Championship Cycle 2023-25

ICC Team

As anticipation builds among cricket enthusiasts, Team India has announced their action-packed schedule for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle from 2023 to 2025. With an array of Tests, ODIs, and T20Is in the pipeline, Indian and West Indian fans are eagerly awaiting this highly anticipated tour.

The journey for Team India in the WTC begins with a captivating two-match series in the Caribbean. The first Test will be hosted by Dominica on July 12, marking India’s return to the venue after more than a decade. The second and final Test will take place at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad, starting from July 20. Following the Test series, a thrilling lineup of three ODIs and five T20Is will conclude the tour on August 13. Notably, the last two T20Is will be held at the Lauderhill ground in Florida, USA. Barbados’ Kensington Oval will host the first two ODIs, followed by the third ODI and the first T20I in Trinidad. The second and third T20Is will then be staged in Guyana.

In addition to the West Indies tour, Team India has an exciting series of engagements lined up for the WTC 2023-25 cycle. They will embark on a tour of South Africa, playing two Tests in December 2023 to January 2024. This will be followed by a much-anticipated tour of England, where India will face off against the hosts in a five-Test series in January and February 2024. Bangladesh will then visit India for a two-Test series in September and October 2024. The New Zealand team will also make their way to India for a thrilling three-Test series in October and November 2024. The cycle will culminate with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, featuring a five-Test series against Australia in November 2024 to January 2025.

Johnny Grave, CEO of Cricket West Indies (CWI), expressed his enthusiasm for hosting the Indian team and highlighted the opportunity for fans to witness 18 days of thrilling matches across the region, including the United States. CWI has collaborated with the ICC T20 World Cup team to enhance infrastructure at the Broward County Cricket Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida, in preparation for the August T20Is against India. This upgrade serves as a trial for new stands and hospitality facilities that could be utilized during the T20 World Cup the following year, aligning with CWI’s operational plans.

As the tour approaches, excitement builds for the historic Test series between India and West Indies in Dominica. Local talent Alick Athanaze, who recently made headlines with his joint-fastest half-century on ODI debut, could potentially make his maiden Test appearance at his home ground. Notably, the West Indies’ home series against India begins just three days after their ODI World Cup Qualifier campaign in Harare, with limited time for Test specialists to prepare if they reach the final.

West Indies’ recent performances on home soil have been impressive, securing victories in their last two series against Bangladesh and England. Meanwhile, Team India aims to bounce back from their disappointing display in the WTC final against Australia. Reflecting on the defeat, Rohit Sharma emphasized the need for a fresh approach in ICC tournaments and a shift in mindset to break the pattern that has hindered their success in crucial matches over the past years.

With a thrilling series of Tests, ODIs, and T20Is on the horizon, cricket fans from both India and the West Indies eagerly await this tour. As these two formidable teams strive to showcase their cricketing prowess, audiences
