In a significant development aimed at preserving Karnataka’s dwindling forest cover, forest land that was encroached upon by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) for the Kempegowda Layout project has been successfully recovered. This marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to protect the environment and rectify unauthorized land occupation.
The recovery operation, conducted jointly by the Karnataka Forest Department and the BDA, took place in the Jarakabande forest area near Bengaluru. The operation aimed to reclaim approximately 65 acres of forest land that had been encroached upon for various developmental activities related to the Kempegowda Layout.
Kempegowda Layout is a large-scale residential layout project in Bengaluru, and the encroachment onto forest land had been a matter of concern for environmentalists and conservationists for years.
The recovery operation involved a team of forest officials and bulldozers to clear illegal structures and return the land to its original state. Several unauthorized constructions, including houses and roads, were demolished during the operation. This step sends a clear message that encroachments on forest land will not be tolerated, and the government is committed to restoring the environment.
Speaking on the successful recovery, Karnataka Forest Minister, Mr. Siddaramaiah, said, “The protection and restoration of forest land is a priority for the government. We are committed to preserving our precious natural resources for future generations. This operation sends a clear message that encroachments on forest land will not be tolerated.”
Environmentalists and activists have long been advocating for the conservation of forest land and protection of the ecosystem. They welcomed the recovery operation as a positive step in the right direction and hope it will act as a deterrent to future encroachments.
The BDA has also issued a statement acknowledging the encroachment and pledging to cooperate fully with the forest department to rectify the situation. They have assured that they will take steps to ensure such encroachments do not occur in the future and that they remain committed to environmental conservation.
This successful recovery operation serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving forest land and the need for stricter enforcement of environmental regulations. It underlines the government’s commitment to protecting Karnataka’s natural heritage and biodiversity while pursuing development projects responsibly.
