Bengaluru gets second mechanised waste transfer station 25 more planned

Bengaluru is taking significant steps to tackle its growing waste management issues by introducing mechanized waste transfer stations. The city has inaugurated its second such station, marking a milestone in its plan to streamline waste handling. These transfer stations aim to reduce the environmental and health hazards caused by inefficient waste management systems.

The first mechanized waste transfer station was successfully set up in Ejipura, and the latest addition is in Mahadevapura. With 25 more stations in the pipeline, the goal is to improve waste collection and transfer efficiency across Bengaluru. The stations are designed to process up to 150 tons of waste per day, significantly reducing manual handling and leachate leakage that causes roadside pollution and unpleasant odors.

These stations are equipped with advanced features like closed compaction systems and weighbridges to ensure that waste is properly managed and tracked. By eliminating black spots caused by waste spillage and improving overall waste management efficiency, the initiative is expected to contribute to a cleaner, healthier city.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is focusing on a more systematic and hygienic approach, which includes RFID systems to monitor waste transfer in real time. With the support of the Government of Karnataka’s grants, Bengaluru aims to revolutionize its waste management systems and become a model city for urban sanitation
