₹300 Crore Sanctioned to Activate Bengaluru’s Five New Corporations

Bengalurus five corporations get Rs 300 crore for administrative expenses

In a significant move to accelerate the establishment of Bengaluru’s restructured civic administration, the Karnataka government has allocated ₹300 crore toward administrative expenses, including salaries and pensions, for the five newly created municipal corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA).

Phased Expansion and New Administrative Setup

The funds are being released from the erstwhile BBMP’s resources and will be mobilised in phases to bring the new corporations online Additionally, groundbreaking ceremonies (Bhoomi poojas) for office buildings of these corporations are slated for November 1, symbolically timed with Kannada Rajyotsava .Each new corporation will be bolstered by experienced staff—comprising two IAS officers, one KAS officer, two chief engineers, and additional administrative personnel—to ensure that governance is accessible and effective at the grassroots level To support infrastructure upkeep, particularly road development, 500 engineers have been deputed across the new jurisdictions

GBA Oversight, Local Functioning
The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), which formally replaces the BBMP, will supervise these corporations’ functioning, but most day-to-day civic administration—such as identifying and managing roads, drains, and other services—will be handled locally by the new bodies.

To guide the transition, 75 members have been appointed to the GBA committee, and until elections are held, Maheshwar Rao will serve as the Chief Commissioner and administrative head of the GBA.

Enhancing Civic Services

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar emphasized that the corporations are expected to deliver governance closer to people’s homes. The structural changes are aimed at more responsive administration—with elected councils and empowered commissioners working under GBA supervision.

Regarding potential incorporation of additional areas, such as former panchayat regions, Shivakumar stated that this will be considered in future expansions and won’t be immediate.
