Visa scam: FIR against owners, employees of consultancy firm in chandigarh

Visa scam FIR against owners employees of consultancy firm in chandigarh

In a significant crackdown on immigration fraud, Chandigarh Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the owners and employees of Sky High Abroad Consultant Private Limited, located in Sector 17. The firm stands accused of deceiving multiple individuals by promising overseas opportunities and subsequently failing to deliver.

Case Details

The primary complainant, Pooja Sharma, alleged that the consultancy firm defrauded her of ₹13.72 lakh under the pretext of securing a study visa for her son. Despite providing all necessary documents, including passports, Aadhaar cards, bank statements, and fixed deposits, and making payments in installments as demanded by the firm, no visa was procured even after a year. Repeated attempts to contact the firm’s employees resulted in evasive responses. Upon further investigation, Pooja discovered that at least 11 other individuals had similarly fallen victim to the firm’s fraudulent practices, collectively losing substantial amounts.

Legal Action

Based on these complaints, the Sector 17 police have registered a case of fraud against the company’s owners—identified as Pratibha, Shikha, and Sanjeev Joshi—and several employees. The charges include cheating and breach of trust under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

This incident is part of a troubling pattern of visa-related scams in Chandigarh. In a similar case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided three visa consultancy firms in Ludhiana and Chandigarh as part of a money laundering probe into alleged immigration fraud targeting aspirants seeking to move to the US.

Conclusion

The registration of the FIR against Sky High Abroad Consultant Private Limited underscores the urgent need for vigilance when engaging with immigration consultancy firms. Prospective clients are advised to conduct thorough research, verify the credentials of such firms, and remain cautious of promises that seem too good to be true. Authorities continue to investigate and take action against fraudulent entities to protect citizens from such scams.
