Residents and commuters in Bengaluru have expressed deep disappointment as the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) fails to deliver on its promises of quality road infrastructure on the Jayamahal-Nandidurga stretch. Despite grand assurances and significant investments, the road development work has been met with dissatisfaction due to subpar execution and delays, leaving residents frustrated and inconvenienced.
The Jayamahal-Nandidurga road stretch had garnered high expectations as the BBMP pledged to transform the thoroughfare into a model of modern urban planning, complete with well-designed roadways, improved drainage systems, and enhanced pedestrian facilities. However, ground realities have proven far from the lofty assurances made by the civic body.
Residents have reported issues ranging from uneven road surfaces to inadequate drainage, causing waterlogging during heavy rainfall. Commuters have also highlighted the lack of proper signage and pedestrian crossings, making the area hazardous for both vehicular traffic and pedestrians. The deteriorating condition of the newly laid roads has only exacerbated the discontent among residents.
“It is disheartening to see the state of the roads after all the promises that were made. The roads have become a nightmare to drive on, and the drainage problems have made life difficult for residents,” lamented a local resident.
The situation has triggered a wave of frustration among citizens who had hoped for an improvement in their daily commute and living conditions. The disarray on the Jayamahal-Nandidurga roads has led to calls for greater accountability from the BBMP and its officials responsible for overseeing the project.
BBMP officials, on the other hand, have acknowledged the issues and have assured residents that corrective measures will be taken. “We understand the concerns of the residents, and we are committed to rectifying the shortcomings in the road development work. Steps will be taken to address the drainage issues and ensure that the roads are made safe for both motorists and pedestrians,” stated a BBMP spokesperson.
As the BBMP grapples with the fallout of the road development project, the residents’ dismay serves as a reminder of the critical need for transparent and effective execution of public infrastructure projects. The case of the Jayamahal-Nandidurga roads underscores the importance of ensuring that grand promises are matched by meticulous planning and impeccable execution to uphold the welfare and convenience of the city’s residents.
