Trump announces Russia-Ukraine 'energy ceasefire'; Zelenskyy says attacks continued
Kyiv says it backs a halt to strikes on energy facilities but reported Russian drone and glide-bomb attacks hours after the announcement.

US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an immediate 'energy ceasefire', a pause in attacks on each other's power and fuel infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy initially said he had not been informed of any such agreement.
Zelenskyy later said Kyiv would support the truce, provided Moscow also complied, and that Ukraine was ready to stop striking Russian oil refineries if Russia ended its attacks on Ukraine's energy grid.

Reports of violations
By Sunday evening, Zelenskyy said Russian drones had been active over Ukraine throughout the day. He reported glide-bomb strikes and an attack on a power plant in Kharkiv. The Kremlin had made no immediate statement on Trump's announcement.
Diesel deal row
The announcement came shortly after Washington temporarily eased sanctions on Russian fuel exports, a move Zelenskyy said had emboldened Moscow. A day earlier, Trump had criticised Ukraine for striking Russian refineries and suggested it was time for Ukraine to have a new president, comments Kyiv pushed back against. Several US senators have questioned the diesel arrangement.
Why it matters for India
Attacks on energy infrastructure by both sides have pushed up global fuel prices in recent weeks. A lasting pause could ease pressure on crude and diesel markets, which directly affect India's import bill and domestic fuel prices.
