Polish PM Donald Tusk in Delhi for talks with Modi; defence, trade and technology on agenda
Tusk, on his first visit to India as prime minister in 16 years, meets Prime Minister Narendra Modi today before heading to Bengaluru for a business forum on Friday.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a three-day visit, and is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. He was received at the airport by Minister of State for Jal Shakti Raj Bhushan Chaudhary.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the visit would give fresh impetus to the India-Poland strategic partnership. The two leaders are expected to review the full range of ties and exchange views on regional and global issues.

A long gap between visits
This is Tusk's first visit to India as Polish prime minister since 2010. India and Poland upgraded their relationship to a strategic partnership during Modi's visit to Warsaw in August 2024, the first trip there by an Indian prime minister in 45 years. The two sides later adopted a joint action plan covering 2024 to 2028.
Areas listed by the MEA include trade and investment, defence, emerging technologies, renewable energy, education and culture. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reviewed the action plan with Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski in Warsaw in September.
Business and defence focus
Tusk is accompanied by Finance and Economy Minister Andrzej Domanski and a large business delegation that includes defence companies. An India-Poland Business Forum is being held in New Delhi today, followed by a second forum in Bengaluru on Friday, where the Polish delegation is expected to meet IT and space sector companies.
Reports ahead of the visit said Poland hopes to lift annual two-way trade from roughly 6.5 billion dollars towards 10 billion dollars. The war in Ukraine, tensions in West Asia and India's ties with the European Union are also expected to feature in the talks.
Why it matters
Poland is one of the fastest-growing economies in the European Union and a significant voice on European security. Closer ties could open new markets for Indian IT, pharmaceutical and engineering firms, and the Bengaluru leg of the visit underlines interest in cooperation on technology and space.
