Inflow to KRS, Kabini Dams Rises After Heavy Rainfall

KRS

The Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) and Kabini Dams in Karnataka have witnessed a significant increase in water inflow following heavy rainfall in the region. The rise in water levels has brought relief to the drought-affected areas and raised hopes for improved water supply in the coming days. However, authorities are closely monitoring the situation to manage water releases and ensure the safety of downstream areas.

The recent spell of heavy rainfall in parts of Karnataka has resulted in a surge of water inflow into the Krishna Raja Sagar Dam, one of the state’s vital water reservoirs. The Kabini Dam, another significant reservoir, has also recorded an increase in water levels due to the bountiful rainfall in its catchment areas.

As the water levels continue to rise, residents and farmers in drought-affected regions have welcomed the development, which is expected to augment water resources for irrigation and domestic usage.

Mr. Suresh Kumar, a farmer from a nearby village, expressed his relief, stating, “The increase in water levels at the KRS and Kabini Dams is a promising sign for us. We have faced water scarcity for quite some time, and the recent rain has brought hope for better agricultural prospects in the coming months.”

While the rising water levels bring much-needed respite to drought-hit regions, the authorities are also cautious about managing water releases to prevent flooding downstream.

The dam management authorities have been closely monitoring the situation and have initiated controlled water releases to maintain a steady flow and ensure the safety of areas located downstream of the reservoirs.

Mr. Ramesh Babu, the Chief Engineer at the Water Resources Department, affirmed that they are taking all necessary precautions. He said, “We are closely monitoring the inflow and outflow at the dams. The controlled water releases are being managed to prevent any unforeseen flooding in downstream areas.”

The increased inflow to the dams comes as a result of the prevailing southwest monsoon season, which has brought widespread rainfall across various parts of Karnataka.

Water conservation efforts and prudent dam management are essential during this period to maximize water storage and effectively utilize the available resources for both agricultural and domestic needs.

As the monsoon season continues, residents are urged to remain cautious and stay updated with weather advisories and dam management information to ensure safety and optimize water usage.

The current situation offers a glimpse of hope for regions affected by water scarcity, underlining the significance of balanced water resource management to address the challenges posed by both drought and excess rainfall in different parts of the state.
