Deputy Chief of the Air Staff Flies HTT-40, Lauds Indigenous Aircraft Development

Deputy Chief of Air Staff flies HTT-40

In a testament to India’s growing capabilities in indigenous aircraft development, Air Marshal R. Sridharan, the Deputy Chief of the Air Staff, took to the skies in the Hindustan Turbo Trainer-40 (HTT-40) aircraft during a visit to Bengaluru. His flight in the HTT-40 is a significant milestone in the development and validation of this indigenous trainer aircraft.

Air Marshal Sridharan’s flight took place on September 8, 2023, at the Aircraft Systems Testing Establishment (ASTE) in Bengaluru. He was accompanied by Group Captain Harshit Joshi, the Commanding Officer of ASTE, and other senior officials from the Indian Air Force.

The HTT-40, developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), is a basic trainer aircraft designed to meet the training needs of the Indian Air Force. It is part of India’s broader efforts to enhance its self-reliance in defense manufacturing and reduce its dependence on imported defense equipment.

During his flight in the HTT-40, Air Marshal Sridharan had the opportunity to experience the aircraft’s capabilities firsthand and evaluate its performance. His presence and participation in the flight test signify the Indian Air Force’s endorsement of this homegrown trainer aircraft.

After the successful flight, Air Marshal Sridharan praised the HTT-40 and its development team, saying, “Flying in the HTT-40 was a remarkable experience. This aircraft holds immense promise for the Indian Air Force’s pilot training program. Its performance is commendable, and it is a significant step towards strengthening our indigenous defense capabilities.”

The HTT-40 has undergone rigorous testing and evaluation by the Indian Air Force and HAL. It is designed to serve as a platform for basic flight training, including aerobatics, instrument flying, and navigation. The aircraft’s development aligns with the government’s “Make in India” initiative, which aims to boost domestic defense production.

The successful flight of Air Marshal Sridharan in the HTT-40 reflects India’s commitment to advancing its aerospace and defense capabilities while reducing reliance on foreign-made equipment. It is a milestone that underscores the nation’s progress in developing and manufacturing its own defense systems, contributing to self-reliance and bolstering its defense infrastructure.
