India Rejects Unwarranted and Misleading Comments of UN Experts on Manipur

unwarranted and misleading

India has vehemently rejected what it termed as “unwarranted and misleading comments” made by United Nations (UN) experts regarding the situation in Manipur, a northeastern state of India. The comments, made by a group of UN experts, raised concerns about alleged human rights violations and unrest in the region.

In a strongly-worded statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, India expressed its dissatisfaction with the comments made by the UN experts and highlighted its commitment to upholding human rights within its borders.

The UN experts had earlier expressed concern about the alleged extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detentions, and other human rights abuses in Manipur. They called on India to take action to address these concerns and ensure accountability.

However, India rejected these claims, stating that they were “based on selective and unsubstantiated information” and that the UN experts had not engaged with the Indian government to verify the facts on the ground.

The Indian government emphasized its commitment to democracy and the rule of law and stated that it has mechanisms in place to address any human rights concerns. India also called for a more constructive and evidence-based approach by the UN experts, urging them to engage with the Indian authorities to gain a better understanding of the situation.

The Ministry of External Affairs also reiterated India’s openness to engaging with international bodies on human rights issues, but stressed that such engagements should be based on mutual respect and a fair assessment of the facts.

This diplomatic standoff between India and the United Nations highlights the complexities of addressing human rights concerns within sovereign nations and the need for constructive dialogue to bridge differences and promote accountability.

The international community will be closely monitoring the developments in this matter as both sides continue to defend their positions, and calls for a constructive dialogue persist.
