In a significant crackdown on the illegal sale of beef biryani, the Chikkamagaluru police conducted raids on two hotels in the district. The operation, aimed at curbing the sale of prohibited meat products, highlights the authorities’ commitment to enforcing existing laws and regulations.
The raids, which took place on August 31, 2023, were carried out following a tip-off regarding the sale of beef biryani in two hotels located in Chikkamagaluru. The sale of beef products has been banned in several regions of Karnataka, including Chikkamagaluru, under the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020.
During the raids, police officers and officials from the Animal Husbandry Department discovered and confiscated significant quantities of beef meat and related products from the two hotels. The establishments were found to be in violation of the existing laws prohibiting the sale and consumption of beef in certain areas of the state.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) S. D. Sharanappa provided details of the operation, stating, “We received credible information regarding the illegal sale of beef biryani, and we took immediate action to investigate. The seized meat and products will be subjected to further examination to confirm their nature.”
The sale and consumption of beef have been a contentious issue in various parts of Karnataka, with differing opinions and legal regulations in place. The raids in Chikkamagaluru reflect the efforts of local authorities to enforce the existing laws and prevent the unauthorized sale of beef products.
The two hotels involved in the alleged illegal sale of beef biryani are now under investigation, and appropriate legal action will be taken against those found in violation of the law.
The Chikkamagaluru police have urged citizens to adhere to the existing regulations regarding the sale and consumption of meat products in their respective regions. They have also encouraged the public to report any instances of suspected illegal meat sales to help maintain law and order in the district.
As the investigation continues, the authorities are committed to upholding the law and ensuring the responsible and lawful sale of food products in the interest of public health and safety.
