Complaint to CBI and ED against CSI Dental College in Madurai about a very huge scam and corruption?

In January 2025, allegations of significant financial irregularities surfaced concerning the Church of South India’s (CSI) Dental and Nursing Colleges in Madurai. Mr. D. Devasagayam, President of the Christian Reformation People Association and a CSI Church member from Srivilliputtur in Virudhunagar district, lodged formal complaints with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in New Delhi, seeking a thorough investigation into these institutions’ operations.

Allegations Detailed

Mr. Devasagayam’s complaints highlighted several concerns:

  • Financial Transparency: He alleged that the CSI Madurai-Ramnad Diocese, registered under the Societies Act 8/1962 as the Madurai Ramnad Diocese Management Association, failed to disclose the income and expenditure of the dental and nursing colleges. This lack of transparency raised suspicions of misappropriation of funds amounting to several crores of rupees.

  • Administrative Oversight: The nursing colleges were reportedly managed by former correspondent Mrs. Leela Manohari Joseph, ex-chairman M. Joseph, and current correspondent Mr. Fernandes Rathina Raja, with Bishop Jaisingh Prince Prabakar serving as chairman. The dental college’s administration mirrored this structure. Mr. Devasagayam contended that these individuals were implicated in the alleged financial misconduct.

Evidence Submitted

To substantiate his claims, Mr. Devasagayam provided authorities with:

  • Audit reports of the dental college.

  • Details of Mr. Fernandes Rathina Raja’s assets and financial transactions.

  • Documents pertaining to an allegedly illegal land lease agreement in Chennai.

These documents were intended to support the call for a comprehensive investigation by the CBI and ED.

Context of Previous Allegations

This is not the first time the CSI’s administrative practices have come under scrutiny. Approximately 1.2 years ago, a 15-year-old land scam in Madurai implicated Mr. Fernandes Rathina Raja, the General Secretary of the CSI. This earlier controversy adds weight to the current allegations and underscores the necessity for a meticulous investigation into the Diocese’s financial dealings.
