In Bengaluru, five individuals accused of planning a terror attack have been remanded to seven-day judicial custody. This development follows the arrest of the group earlier this year by the Karnataka Police, who uncovered a terror module involving weapons, explosives, and communications devices. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has since taken over the case due to its implications for national security.
The group was allegedly radicalized by T. Nazir, a suspect in the 2008 Bengaluru serial blasts, while in prison. They were reportedly connected to Mohammad Junaid, the alleged mastermind who has been absconding and suspected to be operating from Afghanistan. Evidence indicates links to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), with plans for a major terror strike in Bengaluru thwarted by authorities. Efforts are underway to apprehend Junaid, with a lookout notice issued internationally.
This case highlights the challenges of countering radicalization and organized terror activities, particularly when such operations extend beyond borders. The NIA’s involvement aims to deepen the investigation and track down all related perpetrators.
