In the wake of a tragic incident where a group of Kanwariyas died of electrocution in Uttar Pradesh, the authorities have taken swift action by suspending two police personnel. The incident occurred on August 1, 2023, and has raised concerns over safety measures during religious processions.
The Kanwariyas, who were devotees of Lord Shiva, were on a religious pilgrimage, carrying water from the Ganges to offer at a nearby Shiva temple. During their journey, they inadvertently came into contact with a live electric wire, resulting in a fatal electrocution accident.
In response to the unfortunate incident, the Uttar Pradesh Police conducted an investigation to determine any lapses in safety arrangements and negligence in crowd management during the religious procession.
Preliminary findings revealed that the victims’ electrocution occurred due to the presence of live electric wires near the procession route. As a result, two police personnel responsible for overseeing the safety and crowd control during the Kanwariya procession have been suspended pending further inquiry.
The authorities are committed to ensuring that such tragic incidents are not repeated, and measures are being taken to identify any additional safety hazards along the pilgrimage route.
