However, when predicted grades are artificially inflated, they may not accurately reflect a student’s true academic abilities or potential, potentially disadvantaging other students who have earned their grades through merit and hard work.
Moreover, the practice of inflating predicted grades may contribute to a culture of unrealistic expectations and undue pressure on students to achieve grades that may not be attainable or sustainable. This can lead to heightened anxiety, stress, and mental health issues among students, as they grapple with the pressure to meet unrealistic academic standards.
As educators and stakeholders in the education system, it is important for us to uphold the principles of fairness, honesty, and integrity in all aspects of our work, including the prediction of A-level grades. Rather than succumbing to pressures to artificially inflate grades, we must strive to provide students with honest and accurate assessments of their abilities, while also offering support, guidance, and encouragement to help them achieve their full potential.
Additionally, universities should consider adopting alternative admissions practices, such as holistic assessment methods and contextual admissions, that take into account the broader context and circumstances of each applicant, rather than relying solely on predicted grades.
By working together to promote fairness, transparency, and integrity in the prediction of A-level grades and university admissions, we can create a more equitable and supportive education system that empowers all students to succeed and thrive.
