UGC Issues Notification Against Unrecognised Universities Offering Fake Degrees

In a recent move, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a public notification warning against unrecognised institutions offering fake degree courses. The UGC has advised students to verify the recognition status of universities and colleges before applying for admissions.

The commission has also released a list of unrecognised universities that have been found to offer fake degrees. According to the UGC, degrees can only be awarded by universities or institutions established under the state act, central act, provisional act, or institutions empowered to grant degrees as per the UGC Act 1956.

Notably, degrees obtained from these unrecognised institutions will not be valid for higher education or employment purposes. The UGC urges everyone to refer to their website for information on recognised universities and institutions, as well as a list of fake institutions before making any decisions related to higher education.

Additionally, the UGC encourages the public to report any colleges or universities they come across that are offering courses in violation of the UGC Act. They have provided an email address to submit such information.

This notification comes as a significant step in safeguarding the credibility of higher education in the country and protecting students from falling prey to fraudulent practices. Students and parents are urged to exercise caution and vigilance while choosing their educational institutions.
